This site is dedicated to making it easier to improve your life. But there are several different aspects of your life that can be easily improved.
To make things even easier, I’ve organized some of the best posts into certain categories.
Note that not every post is listed in these topic pages. There are many posts that don’t neatly fit into a category.
If you’re new to the site, I highly recommend you check out the Top Posts page.
Incredibly Easy
The Incredibly Easy articles are an ongoing series that list ways to improve your life that go beyond easy to, as the title implies, incredibly easy.
These are things that require no effort or willpower, and minimal to no time to implement.
Weight Loss and Health
After spending half my life obese, I lost 30% of my body weight, and have kept it off for 20 years. I did this without relying on willpower or self-deprivation, and while still eating the foods I love. (Including junk food and fast food.)
I explain how to do this in my book The Weight Loss Habit: The No BS, No Gimmick, (Sort Of) Easy Way to Lose Weight and Keep It Off Forever, as well as in quite a few articles on the site.
Happiness and Mental Health
Another recurring theme on the blog is promoting happiness and mental health through positivity.
Often people are struggling, and I promote easy ways to get through those struggles to live a more joyous and meaningful life.
Evaluating Self-Help Advice
I’m highly skeptical of self-help advice that makes improving your life harder rather than easier. This type of advice comes from super-achieving gurus, and can be actively harmful in your journey.
I’ve written several articles on distilling the good parts of the self-help advice that’s out there, while avoiding the bad parts.
You can also find summaries and analysis of 24 of the top self-help books in 24 Ways to Improve Your Life, an eBook you’ll receive for free is you sign up for the Five Boosts mailing list. Five Boosts sends five weekly recommendations of articles on easy ways to make your life better.
Better Living Online
I’m a recovered arguing-on-the-internet addict. In fighting my addiction, I’ve learned quite a bit about avoiding triggers, policing my own behavior, and curating what I see.
This has resulting in a much more pleasant online experience and much more positive interactions than most people have. I’ve written several articles with tips on how to improve your online life, which will result in you having a better mood, more positive outlook, and more free time overall.
I’ve also written a how-to guide to removing all the hate, anger, and politics from your Twitter feed, called How to Make Twitter Pleasant in 10 Minutes or Less.
Finances and Career
Before I started writing about self-improvement and weight loss, I went to Economics graduate school and spent 20 years working in tech startups, rising to the level of Chief Financial Officer.
I’m an expert at small business accounting, Excel, and handling an extremely fast paced/stressful/chaotic work environment. I also know an awful lot about Personal Finance, Human Resources, and making rapid career progress.
I’ve experienced wealth, poverty, middle-class, starting adulthood with nothing, and working my way up to comfort, so I have a much wider range of perspectives than most people. Watching my father blow up his life and turn himself from a wealthy successful lawyer into a broke homeless criminal meant that from a very young age I had a good sense of what not to do when it comes to money.
